The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia has officially announced the launch of the country’s Digital Greenhouse Gas Emissions Database, marking the successful implementation of the Digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Platform developed by Synergy.
The MRV platform has been developed with the support of UNDP in the framework of the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) project and further enhanced in collaboration with GIZ. The MRV Platform serves as a centralized tool for collecting, processing, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions data. It supports evidence-based climate action and helps improve transparency, coordination, and compliance with international climate reporting commitments.
The launch represents an important milestone in Armenia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen climate transparency and improve evidence based environmental decision making.
“This system establishes a streamlined digital mechanism for collecting greenhouse gas emissions data from both sectoral agencies and private entities. Looking ahead, the upcoming CBIT 2 project will expand the platform’s scope to track mitigation, adaptation and climate finance,” said Diana Harutyunyan, Climate Change Programme Senior Adviser at UNDP Armenia.
A Digital Platform for Climate Data Management and Reporting
Synergy developed the MRV Platform as a centralized digital environment for collecting, processing, managing, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions data.
The platform supports information exchange between government institutions, sector experts, and other data providers. It helps improve data consistency, institutional coordination, and access to reliable climate information.
The solution also supports Armenia’s international climate reporting commitments by facilitating structured data management in line with relevant UNFCCC and IPCC reporting frameworks.
“The MRV Platform provides Armenia with a centralized and structured approach to managing greenhouse gas emissions data. Through this project, Synergy has supported the development of a digital foundation for more efficient reporting, stronger institutional coordination, and informed climate action,” said Hayk Manukyan, Program Director at Synergy International Systems.
Supporting Better Environmental Governance
The MRV Platform strengthens Armenia’s institutional capacity to manage climate information and communicate progress transparently.
By centralizing key data and supporting more coordinated reporting processes, the platform provides government institutions and climate experts with reliable information for analysis, policy development, and decision making.
The launch reflects the joint efforts of the Ministry of Environment, GIZ, Synergy, and other project stakeholders to strengthen Armenia’s climate transparency framework.
