Synergy and Fujitsu to Enhance Public Investment Management in Barbados

The Government of Barbados is advancing its public sector modernization efforts with a significant digitalization initiative, supported by funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). As part of this program, the Government of Barbados has partnered with Synergy International Systems, Inc. and Fujitsu Caribbean (Barbados) Limited (hereinafter referred to as Fujitsu) to implement a cutting-edge digital dashboard aimed at streamlining the management and monitoring of public investment projects.

Led by the Ministry of Industry, Innovation, Science, and Technology (MIST), alongside the Public Investment Unit (PIU) and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Investment (MFEI), this initiative is designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and decision-making in government operations. The partnership officially launched on May 1, 2024, marking a pivotal step in Barbados’ journey toward digital governance.

At the core of this transformation is the Public Investment Management  System (PIMS), developed by Synergy. This centralized platform will provide a one-stop solution for tracking public investment projects, including portfolios of initiatives and loans, comprehensive reporting tools, and a dynamic dashboard offering real-time insights into project progress.

With a proven track record of implementing Public Finance Management Systems in 37 countries and successfully delivering Public Investment Management Systems worldwide, Synergy brings valuable expertise to this collaboration. The company, along with Fujitsu, will work closely with the Barbados government to develop a robust, integrated system tailored to the country’s needs.

Adrian Bayrd, Fujitsu Caribbean’s Vice President of Strategy and Development, expressed his excitement about partnering with Synergy to support the Government of Barbados in its efforts to digitalize and revolutionize government operations and governance. He highlighted that this endeavor is poised to improve citizen services significantly while reinforcing trust, a fundamental principle of the Fujitsu Way.
By harnessing technology, Barbados is positioning itself for improved project oversight, enhanced accountability, and sustainable economic growth. The introduction of PIMS and digital dashboards represent a major milestone in the country’s commitment to modernization and effective governance.
