In March 2009, a Synergy consultant traveled to Kabul to upgrade the Development Assistance Database (DAD) Afghanistan as well as carry out comprehensive training and capacity building services to staff of the Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance.
DAD Afghanistan was upgraded to IDM 5.5 technology, providing more powerful analytical and reporting capabilities, and also contained new features and capabilities in response to the specific requests from colleagues in the Ministry. The fact that DAD Afghanistan is still operational seven years after its inception demonstrates its sustainability and flexibility to continuously adapt to the needs of the Government.
In close cooperation with the staff of the Budget Department, a Synergy consultant carried out training to over 30 individuals, including Budget Sector Officers, and many officials in the Aid Coordination Unit. Synergy also carried out capacity building services and more advanced technical training to the skilled staff of the Database/IT unit in installation, system administration and overall maintenance.
The DAD Afghanistan is closely integrated with the Government’s Budget Process, as the DAD records all cabinet-approved projects contained in the National Budget as well as those outside the National Budget.
DAD currently tracks 5,161 projects with committed funds over US $38 billion. The fully bi-lingual DAD Afghanistan, available in Dari and English, can be accessed at http://dadafghanistan.gov.af/.
